Sustainable Skincare & Supporting Small Businesses
If there’s one thing I’m loyal to, it’s my skincare routine. No matter where I am or what I’m doing, I always put in the time to cleanse and moisturize my face. Of course, I also want to make sure the products I use are good for my skin or else it kind of defeats the purpose, right?
Well, I recently discovered a brand that encapsulates everything I need out of my skincare products. I’m talking good ingredients, sustainable packaging, and (obviously) compatible with my skin type.
Today, I want to introduce you to the brand, share a few products I’ve been trying, and also talk about why I love shopping with small businesses (and how PayPal makes it super easy!).
Apoterra Skincare is an apothecary based in NYC devoted to helping solve adult skincare issues like dry skin, adult acne, and premature aging holistically, while doing it in a transparent and sustainable way.
While I luckily don’t have too many skin issues, I do get dry skin on my cheeks and around my eyes. Because I wasn’t sure which products would work best for me, I took Apoterra’s skincare ritual quiz which suggested a few things for me to try.
The process from choosing my products to checking out online was super simple because I used PayPal’s One Touch feature. This allows you to pay for items in your shopping basket without having to enter credit card or billing details — activate it here. Here’s what I ended up ordering:
I have to admit, I was slightly skeptical about the idea of steaming with flowers, but now I’m obsessed with it. Not only is this a beautiful product with its red rose, yellow calendula and blue cornflowers, it’s also extremely calming and hydrating for the skin. All you have to do is place the herbal blend in a bowl and pour boiling water over top, then position your face over the bowl with a towel and sit there while the steam opens your pores and works its magic. This is a scrub, mask and cleanser in one that gently exfoliates to make the skin smoother (which I definitely need!). I’ve recently started using Thursday evenings as my dedicated “paper time” where I’ll do an herbal steam, apply a face mask, and let myself fully relax. With ingredients like hibiscus, acai, rosehip, and honey, this mask makes my skin feel so nourished and refreshed. Get it here.
Shopping Small Businesses
What I love the most about Apoterra is that they consider the entire cycle when creating their products, from ingredient sourcing to where the used bottles of our products end up. Their products are packaged in non-toxic, easily recyclable glass, and they use biodegradable materials for shipping.
I also love that I’m able to support a small business while taking care of my skin. From the thoughtful thank you note to the carefully packaged products, I felt appreciated as a customer.
I encourage you to shop local and support small businesses this holiday season, especially because small businesses give you more options for getting gifts for your loved ones while supporting your local economy.
How will you be supporting small businesses this holiday season?
