Since it’s the time of year for expressing gratitude, sharing hopes and dreams, and catching up with loved ones, I wanted to take a few minutes to tell you about what’s going on in my life and what I’d share with you if we were to go on a coffee date together (thanks for the idea, Cait!).
After all, I don’t share too much about myself on the internets and you’re probably wondering who the heck I think I am giving you advice anyway. There’s one big piece of news that I’ve been wanting to share with you all since I found out a few weeks ago, so keep on reading to hear what it is. Now, let’s get this coffee date started!
If we were on a coffee date,
I’d order a decaf soy vanilla latte or an earl grey tea latte. I’d tell you that I’m STILL working on kicking this caffeine addiction because coffee has started to give me heart palpitations. Clearly my body is trying to tell me something.
If we were on a coffee date,
I’d ask what new thing you want to try in 2016. Paddleboard yoga, solo hiking, pole dancing classes? I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m really into the idea of taking a trapeze or trampoline class at an acrobatic school. Despite my fear of heights, I think it would be so much fun.
If we were on a coffee date,
I’d ask if you’ve read any good books lately. I’d tell you that I’m going to make an effort to read more next year because I read such an embarrassingly low amount this year. I’d tell you that I was pleasantly surprised by The Happiness Project and #GIRLBOSS (despite thinking I wouldn’t like them), and that I was regrettably disappointed by Amy Poehler’s Yes, Please (despite my dear love for Amy. I just felt like her heart wasn’t in it!).
If we were on a coffee date,
I’d tell you how blown away I am by the support I’ve received from my blog. I’ve wanted to find a way to express my thoughts and ideas for so long, and having a place to get these ideas out that actually reach people who need them is just the best feeling. Writing has always been my preferred method of exploring ideas (and de-stressing), and I feel proud that I pushed my insecurities aside and created this little space in the blogging world. Without blogging, I would most likely still feel incredibly lost and unsure about what to do with my life. With that being said…
If we were on a coffee date,
I’d tell you the biggest news of all. That I’m starting graduate school in January to get my master’s degree in Health & Wellness Coaching! I’ve wanted to go into the wellness field for a long time now, but I’ve never known how or where to start. By some alignment of the stars, I stumbled upon Maryland University of Integrative Health’s coaching program, and it made absolute and complete sense that it was meant for me. It’s a two-year online course which is exactly what I wanted because I still want to continue working at my job for at least the beginning of the course, and then we’ll see what happens from there.
What I love about this school is the emphasis on mindfulness and a holistic perspective towards wellness. Though I’m not 100% sure how I’ll put what I learn into practice, I know that I want to focus on helping others slow down, de-stress, and prioritize their health (aka what I love to talk about on my blog). So…yeah! Cheers to a new chapter!
Tell me about you!
Now that I’ve told you what’s going on in my life, I’d love to get to know you better! I want to know more about you, what your struggles and passions are, and what you’d like to see from The Blissful Mind in the future.
What would you tell me if we were on a coffee date?

A grad school convert!! Yes! Haha. Does this mean you’re also coming over to the East Coast? I love this post idea, as it’s something that I’d really like to communicate with my blog and as a traveler. I might have to play around with it!
If we were on a coffee date I would totally have to chat about those 2016 plans. Can I do every single thing in that little blurb? Put ’em on the list!
Haha! Well it’s an online course, so I’ll be staying put for a while! You should totally borrow this post idea, I think it’s so great (obviously, as I borrowed it from someone else hehe).
Congratulations, how exciting! I’d love to read posts in the future of how you manage your time with work, school, and this blog! Best of luck!
Thank you, Brittney! I will definitely have to do a post about that – once I figure out how the heck to balance all of it haha. I’m a little nervous, but I know it’ll be worth it.
You have so many exciting things coming up, Catherine! Excited to see you seize 2016. Looking forward to more of your content and just general wonderfulness. (That’s a thing to say, right?)
I think that’s totally a thing to say, and thank you for saying it about me, Kayla ;) I’m so happy to have your support, and I am excited to get to know you better in the new year! xx
Congratulations Catherine! I couldn’t think of a more perfect master’s degree for you, you’re going to rock it! Your blog is so inspiring and I love how you always keep things real. I can definitely ‘hear your voice’ through your writing and it’s so obvious that you are not only a wellness extraordinaire but all around a super nice human being. I look forward to your blog post in the years to come! Have a wonderful holiday :)
Oh, Naomi! You always make me smile. I would love to chat about your journey to be an RD sometime! I always strive to keep it real and practical because I think that’s sometimes missing in the wellness field. Hope you have a wonderful holiday as well! xx
Yay Catherine! That’s great news. Grad school is going to be fun and I think that degree definitely fits in with your blog in general. I can see you offering wellness coaching services on this platform. Excited to see what you do with it.
Aww thank you, Tega! It’ll be a struggle to balance everything, but I know it’ll be worth it xx

Love this post, Catherine! Sounds like we would have an awesome conversation if we went on a coffee date. Paddleboard yoga is so fun and definitely challenging! I’ve only tried it a couple of times. I love plain stand-up paddling, though!
I so wish we could go on an actual coffee date, Kate! Paddleboard yoga is def. fun and I’d love to try it again!
I would most defininetly feel the same way without blogging- aimless and purposeless. Congrats on school! * i know its an older post but I hope you are being very successful! I love your blog, it’s one of my favorites!
