This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of FANCL. All opinions are 100% mine.
My love for skincare is something I don’t share too much about on the blog, but my obsession dates back to the days where I would raid my grandma’s beauty cabinets for new products to try.
To me, skincare can be such a therapeutic and calming ritual. Though skincare is not synonymous with self-care (there are so many facets to self-care), having a skincare routine is certainly one way to care for yourself.
The more routine you create around skincare, the more it can be a special moment for you (and only you) to slow down and be in the present moment. My skincare ritual has become one of my favorite parts of the day, especially because it gives me a moment of calm to myself.
Something that’s been making my skincare routine even more special is my recent discovery of FANCL products. If you’re unfamiliar, FANCL is a Japanese company with completely preservative-free products that are manufactured in a highly sanitized, hygienic environment. The effect of their skincare line is maximized by the removal of preservatives as these interfere with the effects of beauty ingredients.
Today, I’m sharing my evening skincare routine in case you’re in need of some inspiration for your own skincare routine. I hope this post encourages you to develop your own routine and explore FANCL’s range of skincare products for yourself.
My Evening Skincare Ritual
I’m allergic to a lot of skincare products, especially ones with added fragrances. Since FANCL is designed for all skin types, including those with sensitive skin, my skin has been benefitting from their range. Their products do not contain any preservatives, petroleum-based surfactants, UV absorbers, fragrances, or synthetic dyes. They’re also gluten-free.
One thing that makes FANCL products unique is their small bottles. Since they’re free of preservatives, each bottle contains enough for a thirty-day supply to ensure that products stay fresh. Their touch-free caps are also specially designed to keep out bacteria.
Now that you know what makes FANCL special, here’s what my evening skincare routine looks like:
1. Remove Makeup with Mild Cleansing Oil
The first step in my skincare routine is to remove my makeup. Even if I haven’t been wearing makeup during the day, I still follow this step to remove built-up dirt from my skin. FANCL’s unique Mild Cleansing Oil effortlessly removes makeup and dirt (even waterproof mascara) without stripping natural oil from your skin. There’s no need to use cotton pads or wipes, plus there are no stimulating ingredients such as alcohol that can sting the skin.
I’ve been using cleansing oils and balms in favor of makeup wipes for years now, and I truly believe they can make such a difference to your skin. Wiping away at your skin can irritate it and cause redness, plus wipes can be pretty wasteful if you use them every day. I know a cleansing oil might sound a little intimidating if you have oily skin, but I’ve never had any issues with oil breaking me out.
How to Use:
I apply two pumps of cleansing oil to my skin and use my fingertips to massage the product in a circular motion, working from the center of my face out to jawline and hairline. Since there’s no need for cotton pads, I work the product in as if I was giving myself a facial massage. The oil breaks down stubborn makeup and washes away after rinsing with water.
2. Cleanse Skin with Powder-to-Foam Facial Cleansing Powder
Though washing off makeup with cleansing oil might seem enough, it’s important to use a cleanser to remove any excess dirt and prep the skin for moisturizer. After I’ve used my cleansing oil, I use FANCL’s Cleansing Powder which turns into a rich, dense foam. It gently lifts off dirt and impurities and even diminishes clogged pores without irritating the skin.
Using a cleansing powder also helps to slough away dead skin cells that cause dullness and prevent skincare ingredients from penetrating the skin. I love the idea of a powder-to-foam cleanser, especially when traveling to avoid leaks and the dreaded security limitations (sidenote: I always bring way too many products when I travel).
How to Use:
FANCL has a Cleansing Net which helps to turn the Cleansing Powder into a rich foam. After wetting the Cleansing Net, I add a teaspoon amount of the Cleansing Powder to the blue cap of the net and use my hands to lather the product into a rich foam. With any product, it’s important that you use enough product to avoid unnecessary pulling at the skin. I gently massage the foam onto my face using circular motions before rinsing thoroughly with lukewarm water. Patting dry with a towel instead of rubbing is also key to keeping skin in good condition.
3. Prep Skin with Enrich Lotion II
Perhaps the most luxurious and relaxing part of my skincare routine is applying the lotion. This essence lotion contains Evening Primrose Extract to target damaged collagen and boost the production of new collagen. If you’re unfamiliar with what essence is, it helps to balance the skin after cleansing to add hydration and prime the skin. It’s less like a lotion and more like a milky oil that you pat into your skin.
Applying lotion is a key step in the FANCL Clean Beauty ritual to reduce skin irritants and keep skin balanced while sealing in moisture. If your skin lacks moisture, it can weaken your skin’s barrier and cause problems like itching and dryness.
How to use:
Since cotton pads can damage the skin, I dispense a small amount of the Enrich Lotion II on the palm of my hand and use my fingertips to tap it onto my cleansed face (sort of like gently pushing it into my skin). When you use your fingertips, it allows you to regularly check the condition of your skin and notice any changes in texture like dry spots or small bumps.
4. Moisturize with Enrich Emulsion II
The final step in my skincare routine is the Enrich Emulsion II, a rich and firming milky moisturizer that helps to improve skin’s elasticity. The Emulsion is so lightweight that it barely feels like you’re putting anything on your face.
Evening Primrose Extract helps to boost the production of new collagen and Sweet Pea Flower helps eliminate skin-damaging stress factors. If you’re wondering why I use both a lotion and an emulsion, they work together to keep the skin moisturized for longer.
How to use:
This one is simple and quick to use. All I do is dispense 2 pumps of the Enrich Emulsion II on the palm of my hand and pat onto my face after applying lotion. And that’s it! My skincare is done for the night.
